The XRP token is presenting investors with a confounding picture. On one hand, fundamental network metrics are hitting multi-month highs, bolstered by institutional investment. On the other, its market price remains stubbornly stagnant. This growing chasm between underlying strength and market valuation has become one of the asset’s most pronounced contradictions in recent memory.
A significant factor shaping the current landscape is a sharp contraction in available supply. Holdings of XRP on centralized cryptocurrency exchanges have plummeted to their lowest levels since 2018. This scarcity is being driven in large part by the launch of spot Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs), which have attracted $1.37 billion in inflows since their debut in late 2025. This institutional “buy-and-hold” demand is systematically removing liquidity from the trading market.
Beneath the surface price action, the XRP Ledger is demonstrating robust health. On January 13, the network processed 1.45 million transactions in a single day, marking its highest daily volume in half a year. Analysis indicates this surge is not fueled by speculative trading but by substantive use cases. Increasing activity in real-world asset (RWA) tokenization and cross-border payments is generating sustained traffic. Notably, current transaction volumes now exceed those recorded during XRP’s price peak in July 2025, suggesting a foundation of genuine adoption.
Should investors sell immediately? Or is it worth buying XRP?
Even positive regulatory developments have done little to shift momentum. Despite securing new operational licenses in key jurisdictions like the United Kingdom and Luxembourg, the market’s response has been muted. As of the latest data, XRP is trading at $2.08, having declined approximately 2.9% on Friday. The token remains a substantial 30% below its 52-week high of over $3, with a persistent technical resistance level consolidating around $2.26.
The standoff is clear. Powerful fundamental indicators — record network usage and shrinking exchange reserves — are colliding with a hesitant market. Broader consolidation in major cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum appears to be applying a brake on XRP’s potential breakout. For the time being, the token seems trapped in a sideways pattern. Until it can decisively conquer the technical barrier at $2.26, its price action is likely to remain disconnected from its increasingly green fundamental dashboard.
