Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson has reaffirmed that XRP holders will receive a share of what is being called the largest airdrop in crypto history by reach. During his talk at the Consensus 2025 event, he emphasized that XRP wallets, alongside other major blockchain users, are eligible for the Midnight airdrop.
This massive giveaway stems from the Midnight network, a Cardano-based privacy-focused sidechain. With 24 billion NIGHT tokens allocated for distribution, the airdrop spans multiple ecosystems and aims to unite the broader crypto landscape.
Hoskinson highlighted that over 37 million wallets qualified for the Glacier airdrop, with eligibility determined by wallet balances captured during the June 11 snapshot. Any wallet holding at least $100 worth of XRP at the time is entitled to participate.
Eligible ecosystems include Cardano (ADA), XRP, Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Solana (SOL), BNB, Avalanche (AVAX), and Basic Attention Token (BAT). This broad-based inclusion reflects Hoskinson’s vision for a collaborative, cross-chain crypto future, as he continues to push for unity across the ecosystem.
The claim portal for the Midnight airdrop went live on July 15. All eligible users now have a 60-day window to claim their allocated NIGHT tokens. This period will end in mid-September. After this window closes, any unclaimed tokens will not be lost but instead transitioned into two subsequent phases:
First comes the Scavenger Mine Phase, during which users must unlock unclaimed tokens through computational mining. The Lost-and-Found Phase will follow this, and after a four-year period, any remaining unredeemed NIGHT tokens will be transferred to the Midnight treasury.
To avoid missing out, XRP holders should claim their tokens as soon as possible before the current redemption window expires.
According to the Midnight whitepaper, XRP holders will receive 5% of the total 24 billion NIGHT tokens, which translates to 1.2 billion NIGHT tokens. The team will distribute these tokens based on the amount of XRP held in each wallet at the time of the snapshot. Larger XRP holdings will earn proportionately higher allocations.
Cardano holders will receive the largest share, with 50% of the NIGHT supply reserved for them. Bitcoin wallets are set to receive 30% of the total. Meanwhile, holders of Ethereum, Solana, BNB, Avalanche, and BAT will collectively share 5%.
