Social media platform X is set to introduce a new onboarding feature called “Starterpacks,” designed to help new users quickly follow curated groups of accounts based on their interests, including cryptocurrencies.
X’s head of product, Nikita Bier, said in a post on Wednesday that the feature will launch in the coming weeks. He noted that months of work went into identifying and compiling leading accounts across more than 1,000 pre-built interest categories.
A video shared by Bier shows that Starterpacks will span a wide range of topics, such as cryptocurrency, news, politics, fashion, technology, business, and finance.
Within these broader themes, the tool highlights more specific niches, including memecoin trading, economics professors, software developers, and “unhinged” personalities.
“Over the last few months, we scoured the world for the top posters in every niche and country,” Bier said. “We’ve compiled them into a new tool called Starterpacks to help new users discover the best accounts — big or small — aligned with their interests.”
There has been growing discussion around a decline in engagement across Crypto X. On Tuesday, Bitcoin cypherpunk Jameson Lopp shared data from social media entrepreneur Jean-Christophe Gatuingt indicating that posts on X containing the word “Bitcoin” dropped by 32% in 2025.
Earlier this week, Bier appeared to hint at the upcoming Starterpacks feature while describing a conversation with an X product manager. According to Bier, account growth remains one of the platform’s most difficult challenges, and the real “magic of X” emerges when users move beyond the mainstream feeds of news and politics to explore more niche interests.
“X is an interest-based graph — you can’t simply sync your contacts and instantly get a relevant feed,” Bier said. “Power users like me have spent years discovering accounts and carefully curating their timelines.”
“But that problem is now getting fixed: Over the last 6 months, we’ve been iterating each day to make it quicker & easier for new accounts to find their interests on X. The pieces are finally coming together — and it’s been amazing to watch.”
The Starterpacks concept is not new, with several social media platforms already offering similar features.
In June 2024, U.S.-based decentralized microblogging platform Bluesky introduced “Starter Packs,” which allow users to follow curated lists of accounts organized around specific interests.
Meta’s X rival, Threads, also began testing a comparable feature in December 2024, enabling users to follow custom feeds curated by other members of the platform.
