A team of 15 staff from the editorial and advertising department bedded down in sleeping bags on the car park at Red Hill House for Centrepoint.
Centrepoint is the chosen charity this year for Newsquest with its newspaper offices around the country taking part in the Sleep Out challenge throughout February.
The charity supports thousands of young people facing homelessness alone across the UK.
Sales director Dale Godliman said: “Taking part in the sleepout really brought home just how tough it must be for young people who have no choice but to face these conditions night after night.
“While our team approached it with determination and good humour, the reality quickly set in, and it left a lasting impression on all of us.
“I’m incredibly proud of what our team achieved — not just in raising funds, but in raising awareness of an issue that affects far too many.
“Centrepoint’s work is vital, and if our efforts can help even a little, then it’s absolutely worth every cold, damp moment. I’d encourage anyone to learn more and support however they can.”
The team has already raised over £3,000 and you can still show your support by donating at http://www.justgiving.com/team/midlands.
To keep spirits up throughout the night, the team played games before it was time to get into their sleeping bags and attempt to sleep on a cold February night.
Catherine Phillips, audience and content editor, said: “Sleeping out for one night will in no way replicate what it is like for the thousands of people who are homeless.
“Packing to go really put into sharp focus how privileged many of us are to have a secure home and creature comforts.
“Everything kept you awake throughout the night – the cold, the noises, the discomfort – and you couldn’t switch off and sleep.
“The whole team were very tired after just one night so it is hard to imagine how someone must feel night in and night out.
“Hopefully, the money we raised for Centrepoint will be used to give a young person a turning point towards a better future.”
