A pedestrian died after being hit by a Tesco delivery van, North Wales Police have confirmed. Garth Road was cordoned off today (Monday, September 29) following the midday collision in Garth Hill, Bangor.
Emergency services, including a Wales Air Ambulance from Caernarfon, were called to the scene, landing near the promenade. Despite their best efforts, the elderly pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. Her next of kin have been informed. The driver of the delivery van, a 33-year-old man, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and is currently in police custody, reports North Wales Live.
North Wales Police’s Roads Policing Unit is now appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage.
The unit was alerted to the collision by the Welsh Ambulance Service shortly after midday.
Sgt Evans said: “Our thoughts remain with the woman’s family and friends at this difficult time.
“We would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision or who saw the pedestrian or the vehicle in the moments leading up to the incident to contact us as soon as possible.”
The road remained closed while officers from the Forensic Collision Investigation Unit carried out initial enquiries.
Now that the coroner has been informed, the road has re-opened.
Anyone with information or relevant dashcam or CCTV footage is urged to get in touch with officers via the force’s website or by calling 101, quoting reference number C151796.
