PRITI Patel visited the White Hart pub in Witham to discuss how pubs are affected by the Labour government’s policies.
During the visit, the Witham MP heard first-hand about the pressures being placed on pubs from Labour’s job tax, hikes to energy bills and increases in business rates.
Ms Patel said: “The Great British pub is part of the fabric of our nation.
“It is an integral part of the community and provides a place of comfort and connection for people across the country.
“However, this terrible Labour government is destroying pubs through its jobs tax, hikes to energy bills, and by hitting pubs with an average 76 per cent rise in business rates.
“The Conservative Party has always backed our pubs.
“We gave them vital relief during Covid, and we would scrap business rates for thousands of pubs altogether.
“Abolishing business rates would help secure the future of pubs, protect jobs and support our high streets.
“It is only the Conservatives who have a clear plan to back our pubs, back businesses, and drive jobs and growth.”
