Will Ospreay Reportedly Pushed To Wrestle At Forbidden Door Despite Injury

While Will Ospreay is set to compete in the main event of this Sunday’s AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door pay-per-view, a new report has revealed that his participation was a “touch-and-go situation.” The report notes that the decision for him to wrestle is “against the better judgment of many in All Elite Wrestling.”

According to a report from Fightful Select, sources within AEW, including some on the talent roster, “were actually hopeful that Will Ospreay wouldn’t end up wrestling at Forbidden Door.” The concern stems from the serious neck injury he is currently working through.

The report adds that Ospreay himself “had made it very clear to people in the company that working Forbidden Door was important to him,” especially since the event is taking place in his home country of England.

Ospreay has been open about the injury, revealing in recent interviews that he has two herniated discs pushing against his spinal cord. He has stated that he will need to get the issue “corrected” after the pay-per-view and is expected to be out of action for some time.

Fightful also clarified a key point from his recent promo on AEW Dynamite. Contrary to the line in his promo where he stated he was not cleared (and thus the match was unsanctioned), the report states that Ospreay is actually medically cleared to compete in the match. His promo on Dynamite was reportedly a last-minute addition to the show.

At the AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door pay-per-view from Wembley Stadium in London, he will lead a team of his allies against the Death Riders and The Young Bucks in a 10-man Lights Out Steel Cage match. The full report on the situation can be found on Fightful Select.
