Police believe an 85-year-old man taken from his home in Sydney’s northwest may have been “mistakenly kidnapped”.
The man was reported to have been taken from his home in North Ryde just before 5am on Friday, police say.
Investigators have released an image of the man, who has not yet been publicly named.
Detectives from the State Crime Command’s Robbery Serious Crime Squad launched an investigation to determine the reason for the alleged kidnapping.

They believe the man may have been taken in a case of mistaken identity.
“Police consider that the man who was reportedly kidnapped may not have been the intended target and are appealing for his safe return,” a statement read.
“Detectives confirm they remain in ongoing communication with the man’s family as inquiries continue.”
Police are due to give a further update on Saturday afternoon.
