The White House on Friday launched a new section on its website dedicated to what it calls the “Media Offender of the Week.”
The page has the title “Misleading. Bias. Exposed “. followed by a list of media outlets and journalists who were on the list. CBS News, The Boston Globe and The Independent were the first media outlets cited on the new web page.
The site claims that news organizations were cited for publishing information that “distorts and exaggerates President Trump’s calls for Democratic accountability.” Specifically, the White House accuses the media of misrepresenting “Trump’s call for members of Congress to be held accountable for inciting sedition by saying he called for their ‘execution’.”
The media coverage in question centered on a video in which Senator Mark Kelly and five other members of Congress explained to troops that they could disobey illegal orders and reminded them that they had sworn to uphold the Constitution.
In response, Trump posted on Truth Social about “SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL.” He added: “Each of these traitors to our country should be arrested and tried. ” He also posted that their comments were “punishable by DEATH!” and said: “HANGING THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON DOES IT!! ”
The new White House page claims the truth is this: “Democrats and the fake media subversively implied that President Trump issued illegal orders to the military. Every order issued by President Trump was legal. It is dangerous for sitting members of Congress to incite insubordination in the United States military, and President Trump has called for them to be held accountable.”
“Democrats released a video calling on the military to disobey their chain of command and, in turn, implied that President Trump had issued illegal orders. ” “President Trump never issued an illegal order. Fake News knew that, but they reported the story anyway.”
The page also features an “Offender Hall of Shame” that includes the Washington Post, CBS News (again), CNN and MSNBC (recently renamed MS NOW), citing their coverage of various events. In its coverage of the new web page, The Washington Post quoted an internal spokesperson who said: “The Washington Post prides itself on its accurate and rigorous journalism. ” The Hollywood Reporter has contacted CBS News for comment.
The page also names several “repeat offenders” who “not only get it wrong, but they do it again and again.” This section includes Axios, The New York Times, KTLA Los Angeles, People, Politico, The Los Angeles Times, The Daily Beast, The Hill, BBC, ABC News, USA Today and more. There is also a section where readers can select one of these media outlets from a drop-down menu to see the specific “offense” they are accused of.
Interestingly, CBS News’ rebuke comes just weeks after Trump praised the company’s new leaders — CBS News Editor-in-Chief Bari Weiss and Paramount CEO David Ellison — in an interview on 60 Minutes. In the interview, he alluded to his recent lawsuit against Paramount Global over the editing of a 60 Minutes interview with 2024 Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris. The lawsuit resulted in Paramount Global settling a $16 million payment. Part of the settlement agreement called for Paramount to release after broadcast transcripts of 60 Minutes interviews with presidential candidates.
“And actually, 60 Minutes paid me a lot of money,” Trump said in the interview. “And you don’t have to put that out there, because I don’t want to embarrass you, and I’m sure you’re not – you have a great – I think you have a great new leader, frankly, who is the young lady who runs your whole company is a great one, from what I know. I don’t know her, but I hear she’s a great person. But 60 Minutes had to pay me a lot of money because they removed his answer that was so bad, It changed the election, two nights before the election. And they gave me a new answer. And they paid me a lot of money for it. You can’t have fake news.
