This week sees the launch of Destination X, a new BBC gameshow hosted by none other than Gavin and Stacey star Rob Brydon.
The competitive reality series is said to be a take on ‘The Traitors meets Race Across the World’ and was originally created in Belgium.
Rob, who is the gamesmaster, takes thirteen contestants onboard the “very special” X-bus and asks them one simple question – where the X are they?
With blacked out windows, all they have to do is try and figure out where in the world they are because at the end of every episode they must place an X on a map.
Whoever puts their X furthest away from the location is immediately thrown off the X-bus and eliminated from the competition.
However, the winner will return home with a cash prize of £100,000.
Rob explained: “The windows of the bus are opaque for most of the time but can suddenly become clear at the flick of a switch, albeit very briefly. The players have to learn to live with each other and to complete challenges to win clues as to where on earth they are.
“At the end of each episode, they all go into a very special ‘map room’ that is hidden away on the bus and they have to place their X on the map trying to guess where they are. Whoever is furthest away from our actual location or Destination X has to leave.”
Each of the 10 episodes sees Rob take the adventurers on another leg of the journey somewhere in Europe.
It seems the exact locations are under wraps (for now), and viewers will have to work out the destinations in each episode by following along with the clues.
Commenting on what he thinks it takes to be a good Destination X player, Rob shared: “A knowledge of geography can only be a plus, and being a problem solver – a mind that’s good with puzzles.
“A good knowledge of Europe is the most basic thing and I don’t really have that beyond the places we always go on our holidays in Europe, I think I would have been rather lacking.”
Destination X launches on Wednesday, July 30 at 9pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
There will be two episodes a week, airing on Wednesdays and Thursdays, so it’s set to run for five weeks in total.
