What’s open, what’s closed, what’s up in Winnipeg on Remembrance Day 2025

In honour of Remembrance Day, the Free Press is not publishing a print or e-edition on Nov. 11, but readers can visit our website for the latest news and information.

Here’s a round-up of hours of business for services and things to do on Remembrance Day. Most businesses are required by provincial law to be closed from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Remembrance Day.

The largest Remembrance Day ceremony in Manitoba will be at the downtown RBC Convention Centre with seating for 4,000 people. The ceremony is hosted by the Joint Veterans Association of Manitoba. Doors open at 9:30 a.m. Nov. 11.

Many other ceremonies are planned throughout the province: Royal Canadian Legions host their own events. Find the one closest to you here.

The Royal Winnipeg Rifles Remembrance Day Service is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Vimy Ridge Park (821 Preston Ave.)

The Minto Armoury (969 St. Matthews Ave.) is closed for construction, but an outdoor Remembrance Day Service is planned in front of the armoury starting at 10:30 a.m.

The St. Norbert Remembrance Day committee will host an event at the Cenotaph in the St Norbert Cemetery (847 Ste. Therese Avenue), which will also be livestreamed on YouTube at 10:45 a.m. on Nov. 11.

Civic, provincial and federal offices are closed.

There is no mail delivery on Remembrance Day. Canada Post offices are closed, but post offices operated by the private sector will be open according to the hours of service of the host business.

Brookside Cemetery, St. Vital Cemetery and Transcona Cemetery are open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The administration building at Brookside Cemetery will be closed.

Winnipeg Transit will operate on a Sunday schedule. Plan your specific route and see service alerts on the Winnipeg Transit site.

Recycling and garbage will not be collected on Remembrance Day. Find your collection schedule here.

All Winnipeg Public Library branches will be closed. (Find your great next read in our Books section.)

Arenas will be closed.

Leisure centres will be closed, except Cindy Klassen Recreation Complex, which is open 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

City of Winnipeg swimming pools will be closed, except the Cindy Klassen pool (open 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.), and Pan Am pool (open 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.)

Major movie theatres will be open in the afternoon. (Not sure what to see? Find news and reviews in our Movies section.)

The Assiniboine Park Zoo and The Leaf will be will be open 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. See what’s on.

The Canadian Museum for Human Rights will be open 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. See current exhibits and events.

The Manitoba Children’s Museum will be closed. Check out their featured events.

The Royal Aviation Museum of Western Canada will be open 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Upcoming events.

The Winnipeg Art Gallery-Qaumajuq will be open 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Current exhibitions.

FortWhyte Alive is open every day of the year except Christmas Day. Calendar of events.

Most larger chain grocery stores are open starting at 1 p.m. but you might want to call ahead to check the hours at your preferred shop.

CF Polo Park, St. Vital Centre, Garden City Shopping Centre and Outlet Collection Winnipeg will be open 1 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The Forks Market will be open; vendor hours may vary.

Most Liquor Mart stores in Winnipeg will be open starting at 1 p.m.; the True North Square location will be open 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Check hours at your preferred store.

Beer vendors and private wine stores set their own hours for holidays, so call ahead.
