ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) is seeking public input on what projects it should include in the department’s 10-year transportation plan for 2028-2037.
From July 28 until Aug. 29, NCDOT will accept public feedback in the form of online surveys and in-person drop-in sessions scheduled across the state.
NCDOT says it uses data and local input to determine which projects get funded in the 10-year State Transportation Improvement Program (STIP), which are chosen based on a specific formula created by the Strategic Transportation Investments law. The goal is to increase safety, reduce congestion, and promote economic growth.

Projects that could be considered range from large-scale interstate improvements to smaller changes, like a new turn lane. NCDOT says projects can also involve any of the department’s six modes of transportation: highway, aviation, bicycle and pedestrian, ferry, public transportation, and rail.
NCDOT clarified that the comment period is not intended for maintenance-related projects, such as patching potholes, resurfacing, or clearing ditches.
