Two pupils who had been at their new school for just over a week wowed a packed audience when they delivered impromptu speeches during an open evening attended by hundreds of families.
Worle Community School Academy (WCSA) threw open its doors to parents, carers and prospective students for its annual showcase event, which celebrated the school’s diverse community through hands-on activities, performances and department tours.
Guests were treated to a range of interactive displays, including high-energy sports demonstrations, drama performances, music workshops and academic challenges in English and maths.
A standout moment came when two Year 7 students — only eight school days into their WCSA journey — took to the stage in front of a full hall. They delivered heartfelt speeches describing their early experiences, including making friends, exploring new subjects and settling into school life. Their honesty and courage were met with enthusiastic applause from the audience.
Also present were members of the Jill Dando News team, the school’s award-winning, student-led journalism group, who conducted interviews and documented the evening’s highlights.
Mark Tidman, principal at WCSA, said: “We were absolutely delighted to see so many families visiting WCSA. We are a true community school and are passionate to bring people together to celebrate the students and show off the school.
“The enthusiasm of our students, the dedication of our staff, and the buzz around the school was wonderful to see.
“Our Year 7 speakers made us especially proud — it was incredible to hear their voices after just ten days at the school.”
