We’ll Hold You Accountable – Edo PDP Tells Okpebholo Over $250 Million EuroAfrica Deal

The party said the deal, announced during the 2025 Edo State Global Investment Summit in Glasgow, United Kingdom, had generated confusion and embarrassment among the people of the state.

In a statement issued on Sunday by its Publicity Secretary, Daniel Osa-Ogbegie, the PDP insisted that it would hold the government accountable for transparency and fiscal responsibility.

“We will demand clarity on the Governor’s claim of a $250 million investment from Glasgow that has become a source of embarrassment to Edo people at the moment,” Osa-Ogbegie said.

The opposition party also vowed to raise questions about abandoned projects initiated under former Governor Godwin Obaseki, stating that it would shed light on fiscal practices it considered opaque.

Naija News reports that the Edo State Government had earlier announced, on September 25, that Governor Okpebholo signed a $250 million framework agreement with EuroAfrica CCI, a coalition of chambers of commerce spanning 98 countries across Europe and Africa.

According to a statement by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, the deal is expected to establish a platform for strategic investment in Edo State over the next three to five years.

But the PDP insists more details are needed.

While affirming its respect for institutions of governance, the PDP stated that its primary allegiance remains with the people of Edo State.

“In this regard, we serve notice to the ruling All Progressives Congress and to the administration of Governor Monday Okpebholo: the PDP will hold you accountable to Edo people.

“Where government policies uplift the people, we shall lend our support; but where governance falters into oppression, waste, or deception, we shall stand firmly with the people,” the statement added.

Osa-Ogbegie also put the ruling APC on notice, calling on its Publicity Secretary, Peter Uwadiae-Igbinigie, and the state Commissioner for Information and Communication, Paul Ohonbamu, to prepare for what he described as “robust engagement.”

“Gentlemen, the road ahead will be robust. I am prepared for it. I trust you will be too,” he said.

He further disclosed that a new PDP executive committee was inaugurated on Saturday to replace the caretaker committee, signalling what he described as a more organised and focused opposition to the APC-led government.
