Springboks coach Rassie Erasmus enjoyed a well-deserved beer after the squad’s victory against the Wallabies at Cape Town’s DHL Stadium on Saturday, 23 August.
The win came a week after South Africa’s embarrassing defeat to Australia at Ellis Park.
Directly after the Springboks’ victory in Cape Town, coach Rassie Erasmus and player Jessie Kriel – standing in for captain Siya Kolisi – attended a media conference.
Instead of drinking water or energy drinks at his disposal, a clip of Rassie chugging down a bottle of beer, which he had seemingly brought in himself, had fans amused.
“All the other sponsors are on the table and Rassie brought his own beer to the party”, commented one TikToker. Another added: “Well-deserved after that win”.
Speaking to the media, Rassie Erasmus addressed last week’s disastrous defeat by the Wallabies in Ellis Park.
He said, “We are trying to please our crowds by winning and playing a better brand, and sometimes we get it wrong, like we did last weekend. But sometimes when we get into games like this, where it’s a real grind, we tend to find a way.
He added: “We tend to struggle when it’s an open, free-running game – it’s beautiful rugby, but you lose on the scoreboard. Overall, we’ll learn from this and hopefully the tighter the matches get, we’ll get more comfortable with it as we have been in the past.”
The Springboks will play their final home game against Argentina at the Hollywoodbets Kings Park Stadium on 27 September.
