And phew, boy, what a win it was for Matt Rhule and the Huskers.
Nebraska – two weeks after a disappointing performance in a loss to Top-25 Michigan – regrouped and resettled in a win over Michigan State. On Saturday, in a Week 7 road game at Maryland, they had a shot of building some major momentum.
In a heart-stopping, anxiety-inducing game for Nebraska fans, the Huskers did exactly that in College Park.
Final score: Nebraska 34, Maryland 31
Following their 20-17 season-opening win over Cincinnati on Aug. 28, the Huskers obliterated MAC opponent Akron, 68-0, in a Week 2 thrashing, and it was more of the same in Week 3 as Nebraska rolled to an easy 59-7 victory over FCS foe Houston Christian, 59-7.
Then came the Week 4 showdown with Michigan in the Big Ten opener, but Nebraska didn’t get the job done. The Huskers rebounded against the other B1G team from the state of Michigan in a 38-27 win over the Spartans.
Then, they outdid themselves during their East Coast trip to visit the Terps, who dropped to 4-2 overall and 1-2 in the Big Ten.
The Huskers (5-1, 2-1) came out strong, then wavered, but ultimately never broke en route to the critical, possibly season-changing comeback win in the fourth quarter.
Now, the Huskers are set for their second consecutive road game. It will be a brief return to Lincoln for Nebraska, which has a short week ahead before traveling to face Minnesota in a Friday night matchup (7 p.m. Central Time on FOX) in Minneapolis. The Gophers began the year 3-2 overall (1-1 in the conference) entering Saturday night’s home game against Purdue.

Rhule and several players were made available to the media for the postgame press conference following the victory over the Terps.
The players who spoke at the main podium were quarterback Dylan Raiola, running back Emmett Johnson and linebacker Vincent Shavers Jr.
They all discussed the 34-31 victory, what the win could mean moving forward and more thoughts from Saturday.
