The Huskers – two weeks after a disappointing performance in a loss to Top-25 Michigan – regrouped and resettled during their bye week and came out with energy on Saturday against Michigan State.
Final score: Nebraska 38, Michigan State 27
Following their 20-17 season-opening win over Cincinnati on Aug. 28, the Huskers obliterated MAC opponent Akron, 68-0, in a Week 2 thrashing, and it was more of the same in Week 3 as Nebraska rolled to an easy 59-7 victory over FCS foe Houston Christian, 59-7. Then came the Week 4 showdown with Michigan in the Big Ten opener, but Nebraska didn’t get the job done.
The same certainly cannot be said for Saturday’s Week 6 conference battle with the Spartans (3-2, 0-2 Big Ten)
The Huskers (4-1, 1-1) came out strong, storming out of the gate with a 14-0 lead midway through the first quarter following a 10-play, 48-yard touchdown drive on their first series and a blocked punt scooped up by Carter Nelson in the end zone for the second score.
From there, Nebraska handled business to recover nicely from the downer against Michigan.
Now, the Huskers are set for their first road swing of the season. Though their season-opening win over Cincinnati was away from the confines of Memorial Stadium, it was only a three-hour drive to Kansas City. That makes their Week 7 game at Maryland (Saturday, Oct. 11 at 2:30 p.m. CT on Big Ten Network) and Week 8 at Minnesota (Friday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. CT on FOX) their first true road tests of the year.

Following the victory over Michigan State, Rhule and several players were made available to the media for the postgame press conference.
The six players who spoke at the main podium were quarterback Dylan Raiola, running back Emmett Johnson, receiver Jacory Barney Jr., JACK linebacker Dasan McCullough, inside linebacker Javin Wright and safety DeShon Singleton.
They all discussed the 38-27 victory, what the win could mean moving forward and more thoughts from Saturday.
