CJ Osazuwa, who is finishing up on his first week in the role, has already been taken aback by the passion for the club, and hopes to implement his ‘rugby for everyone’ ethos.
On the possibility of the academy’s return, he told Worcester News: “I have been involved in a few conversations. Ultimately we will have an academy – that is a no-brainer.
“Ultimately we want to be the club we were before, even more competitive if possible – win some really great things. Rome wasn’t built in a day, it won’t happen overnight.
“It will probably be resourced with people that aren’t involved with academies and pathways because they obviously have their own routes, but just making sure that promising kids can come in and understand what it takes, get the best nutrition, the best training and then hopefully have a full-fledged academy.
“But timescales wise, I can’t give anything – it is on the horizon.”
Asked about the return of a Women’s side, he added: “That is 100 percent being talked about, Factually yes, there will be a women’s team coming back.
“Again, timescale is no idea.
“Women’s rugby is huge – it has never been bigger. We just had an amazing summer.
“Participation is still quite low in the women’s game. What’s bigger than that is the drop-off.
“If we can be pioneers we will be, but we’re definitely not anywhere near that yet.”
Osazuwa brings significant rugby experience to the role. After leaving the sport at 17 and pursuing semi-professional football, he returned at the age of 24.
He quickly found himself playing in Scotland’s top division and competing all across the world, representing Nigeria internationally.
He feels the first step in maximising community involvement is getting those that loved the club back involved.
He said: “The doors are completely open. But like anything in life, you have to go for the low-hanging fruit – the people that were in love with this club beforehand and want to get back involved.
“Giving them the love, letting them understand how they can participate.
“Then we want to go a bit broader, how can we get those people that don’t know much about rugby and get them involved?”
Osazuwa will be bringing back Warriors’ rugby camps in Easter, hosted at Malvern College.
The club will also be hosting a community day when Warriors host Hartpury on January 24, featuring competitions, supporters on the pitch and welcoming local clubs.
He added: “For community group bookings to the Hartpury games, teams can contact me at [email protected] for more information.”
