BRIDGEPORT, W.Va (WDTV) – Governor Patrick Morrisey, Senator Jim Justice and Senator Shelley Moore Capito each issued press releases responding to President Trump’s State of the Union address.
Morrissey thanked President Trump and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth for recognizing Air Force Staff Sgt. Andrew Wolfe and U.S. Army Spc. Sarah Beckstrom, two members of the West Virginia National Guard, who were shot in an ambush in November while deployed to Washington. Beckstrom died on Thanksgiving Day. Wolfe was presented the Purple Heart medal during the address.
“Tonight’s recognition brings lasting honor to their service, offers comfort and affirmation to their families, and reminds our country that the men and women of the National Guard stand ready, and willing, to defend our freedoms,” Morrisey said. “West Virginia will never forget their service, their bravery, or their sacrifice.”
Justice said the country is moving in a positive direction under the current administration.
“Under President Trump’s leadership, America is back on the right track,” Justice said. “We’ve secured the border, stood with our men and women of law enforcement, cut wasteful spending in Washington, built a stronger economy for our hardworking families, supported our vital energy sector, and put the American Dream back in reach for Americans across the board.”
Moore Capito praised the president for his economic policies and investments in American-made energy.
“From natural gas development to coal and emerging energy technologies, these investments are supporting good-paying jobs and ensuring that West Virginia families benefit directly from a stronger, more self-reliant America,” Moore Capito said.
