Liverpool suffered a 3-2 defeat to Bournemouth in the Premier League after conceding a stoppage-time goal at the Vitality Stadium
Virgil van Dijk has explained why he believes Bournemouth’s third goal against Liverpool should have been disallowed. The Reds suffered a 3-2 defeat to the Cherries in their Premier League clash on Saturday night, and are now five games without a win in the top flight.
Goals from Evanlison and Alex Gimenez had put Bournemouth 2-0 in front in the first half, before Van Dijk got a goal back just before the interval.
Dominik Szoboszlai then equalised for Liverpool with a free-kick in the second half, only for the Reds to concede a stoppage-time goal from Amine Adli, which saw their 13-game unbeaten run across all competitions come to an end.
However, Van Dijk has explained why he believes Adli’s goal should have been checked by VAR.
“What I felt on that pitch was that I was clearly blocked,” Van Dijk told Sky Sports. “The referee and the VAR don’t give it.
“We will have to accept it. I can stand here and say it should not be given but it was. It is what it is.”
