For those entering the capital throughout most of the 20th century – Corstorphine would be the first suburb to welcome visitors.
A historic ‘gateway’ into Edinburgh, the now hectic Drum Brae roundabout, was formerly a quiet junction.
Resurfaced photos courtesy of the Corstorphine Trust Archive, reveal just how much the area has transformed.
From the old Rowanbank nursery on the current McDonald’s plot, to the former Securex building, which is now home to Lidl, the area is almost unrecognisable.
Pictures from the archive show a time when Corstorphine locals would have been traversed by tram.

Many of the pictures were taken at a time when the suburban village would have been surrounded to the north by farmland before the construction of much of the Drum Brae and Clermiston housing schemes.
The archive snaps also show a Glasgow Road that saw businesses come and go throughout the decades.
