DMDK general secretary Premallatha Vijayakant on Sunday said that Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader Vijay should meet the families of the Karur stampede victims and hand over the solatium announced by him.
Speaking at a public meeting in Krishnagiri, she said the government and Mr. Vijay made mistakes and both should take responsibility for the death of 41 people at the actor-politician’s rally.
“Mr. Vijay, who went to his house after the incident, did not come out,” she alleged. The TVK functionaries who are said to be hiding should come out and face it. A political party and a leader should have the courage to face any situation. Why did the government give permission for the TVK rally in a small place and who sent the ambulance into the crowd, she asked. The government should arrest the persons who hurled slippers and stones, she said claiming it was done by local thugs. “There was no power supply in the locality,” she claimed. She alleged this was planned and there was no police in the incident spot. [Video from the spot, however, showed the police helping the victims.]
Pointing out the mistakes of the TVK leader, Ms. Premallatha said Mr. Vijay did not come to the campaign spot on time.
Mr. Vijay should come out of the campaign bus and see people. “He should learn from [Late] Vijayakant how to handle the cadre,” she said.
