WorkBC’s recent Job-A-Palooza fair brought together more than 30 vendors and close to 350 job seekers at the Prestige Vernon Lodge.
Close to 350 job seekers converged in the mosh pit at Vernon’s Job-A-Palooza.
The event on Thursday, Oct. 2, brought together more than 30 local employers taking questions and comments from the job seekers to create a vibrant and productive environment for connecting talent with chance.
The fair featured a wide range of industries, including local businesses, large corporations, and non-profit organizations seeking seasonal and full-time staff.
“Job-A-Palooza is a key event for our community, and this year’s turnout exceeded our expectations,” said Johanna Currie, WorkBC Vernon placement services and facilitation manager. “The energy in the room was incredible, and it’s clear there is a strong demand for both qualified workers and great job opportunities in the North Okanagan.”
Attendees had the chance to engage directly with hiring managers, submit resumes, and even participate in on-the-spot interviews.
Employers from various sectors and sizes, including the City of Vernon, VegPro, and KF Aerospace, were on hand to meet with potential candidates with many walking away with successful hires.
In addition to the main job fair, employers had the opportunity to attend an exclusive Lunch and Learn session before the event, featuring speakers from Ascent Employment Law and the Neil Squire Society. They provided valuable insights on topics such as employment law best practices as well as Assistive Technology Services (ATS) and other resources available to employers through WorkBC employer support.
For job seekers, the event was a chance to explore a variety of career paths. WorkBC Vernon offered free assistance with resume building and interview preparation leading up to the event, and a virtual reality experience was available at the fair to allow job seekers to try out different vocations.
