VCK will stick to 14-year-old decision with respect to PMK: Thirumavalavan

VCK president Thol. Thirumavalavan, on Sunday (January 25, 2026), said his party would stick to its decision, taken 14 years ago, with respect to the PMK.

Responding to journalists in Tiruchi on whether the VCK would continue in the alliance if a PMK faction (led by its founder S. Ramadoss) were to join the DMK-led front, Mr. Thirumavalavan said, “We took a clear decision 14 years ago [not to align with the PMK], and we will stand by it.”

On speculation surrounding Dr. Ramadoss joining the DMK-led alliance, he said the matter was not for him to comment on. “That decision rests with him [PMK founder] and the DMK. We have been clear since 2011 that we will not align with either the AIADMK or the BJP, as they indulge in caste- and religion-oriented politics,” he said.

Earlier, speaking to reporters at the Tiruchi airport before attending a programme in Chidambaram, Mr. Thirumavalavan sought clarity on the BJP’s “double-engine” narrative, asking whether it meant “one engine in Delhi and another in Tamil Nadu”.

Alleging the Union government was aggressively pushing Hindi, he said such moves posed a serious threat to India’s linguistic diversity. “The Modi government functions with the idea of ‘one nation, one culture, one language, one religion’. This approach endangers pluralism. It is not just us, but speakers of all Indian languages who must unite to protect their mother tongues,” he said.

Referring to the NDA, he said it was no longer in a position to function in Tamil Nadu under the AIADMK’s leadership.

He expressed concern over the recent remarks by AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami on the formation of an “alliance government” under the Prime Minister’s leadership in the State.

“The narrative has shifted from the AIADMK forming a government to one under the Prime Minister’s leadership, which shows the party has gone completely under the BJP’s control,” he alleged.

Commenting on actor-politician Vijay, Mr. Thirumavalavan said questions were being raised over why he had not strongly criticised the BJP-led government or its policies when opportunities arose, adding he might contest the election independently and attempt to form a separate front.
