Thornton Academy won its second No. 1-vs.-No. 2 showdown of the season and has established itself as the unanimous No. 1 team in the Varsity Maine football poll. The Golden Trojans doubled up second-ranked Bonny Eagle 42-21 on Friday to convince last week’s two holdouts to vote them as the top team and make them the season’s first unanimous No. 1. Thornton has been atop the poll since beating then-No. 1 Portland on Oct. 3.
Though Bonny Eagle lost its two first-place votes, it did not lost its ranking. For the fourth straight week, the Scots are second and Cony is third.
Portland jumped from No. 8 to No. 5 after beating Exeter of New Hampshire last week. Bangor and Leavitt enter the poll at ninth and 10th, respectively.
The Varsity Maine football poll is based on games played before Oct. 28, 2025. The top 10 teams are voted on by the Varsity Maine staff, with first-place votes in parentheses, followed by total points.
