USPS Operation Santa invites children and families across the United States to start writing and sending their letters to Santa Claus. The program connects letter writers with generous individuals and organizations who can help fulfill holiday wishes.
This year, USPS says participants can fulfill wishes from multiple people within a single household by adopting a family letter. There is even a team format to make it easy to join forces, divide up the wishes and fulfill the whole family’s holiday wish lists.
USPS also shares that they are making it easier than ever to fulfill gift lists. The USPS Operation Santa online gift catalog was introduced last year and is being brought back for 2025, this time with an expanded selection that includes thousands of items.
USPS began accepting letters for the 2025 season on Sept. 23 and will allow letters to be postmarked up to Dec. 6. Any letters sent after Dec. 6 won’t be eligible for adoption and fulfillment.
If you or someone in your family is interested in writing a letter, USPS does have a few guidelines that need to be followed by writers to ensure the letters and gifts get to the right places. The full guidelines on writing a letter and Santa’s address can be found here.

USPS clarifies that by adopting a letter, you’re not required to buy the very expensive items or even all the items on the list.
“For more than a century, USPS Operation Santa has brought communities together to make the holidays brighter,” said USPS Marketing Vice President Sheila Holman. “Each year, we receive far more letters than we have adopters, and this year we want to change that – especially by encouraging participants to adopt family letters, which makes it possible to fulfill the wishes of an entire household at once.”
