First mid-year cattle count since report reinstatement will provide critical data for industry planning and decision-making.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service has mailed its July cattle survey to approximately 18,000 cattle operations nationwide, marking the first mid-year cattle inventory assessment since the reinstatement of key livestock reports earlier this year.
The survey aims to provide current data on U.S. cattle inventories, which industry participants use for business planning and market analysis.
“This information helps producers make timely, informed business decisions and plan for herd expansion or reduction,” said NASS Livestock Branch Chief Travis Averill. “It also helps packers and government leaders evaluate expected slaughter volume for future months and determine potential supplies for export.”
During the first two weeks of July, cattle producers will report their beef and dairy cattle inventories, calf crop, death loss and cattle on feed information. NASS offers multiple response options including online submission through agcounts.usda.gov, telephone, mail or personal interview with a local representative.
The comprehensive data collection effort supports industry-wide planning at a time when accurate livestock information is particularly valuable for market participants across the supply chain.
The July Cattle report, containing the survey results, will be released on July 25 at 3 p.m. ET and will be available online at the USDA NASS publications website.
