US unites with Japan, Australia, South Korea, and China to fuel Vietnam’s tourism boom in 2025, driven by a series of strategic visa changes, enhanced marketing efforts, and improved connectivity. As the world continues to recover from the pandemic, Vietnam has emerged as one of the most sought-after destinations for travelers from key global markets. The country’s innovative visa reforms, including extended e-visa validity and expanded visa exemptions, have simplified access, attracting millions of visitors. Coupled with focused promotional campaigns and infrastructure improvements, these efforts have positioned Vietnam to reach its ambitious tourism goals, making 2025 a pivotal year for the country’s tourism sector.

Vietnam’s tourism industry has witnessed remarkable growth in recent years, with a surge in international arrivals across key markets. As the world gradually recovers from the effects of the pandemic, Vietnam is positioning itself as a top destination for travelers seeking a unique blend of cultural heritage, natural beauty, and exciting new tourism offerings. Despite challenges posed by natural disasters, the country’s tourism sector is on track to achieve unprecedented growth in 2025, with ambitious targets set to welcome 25 million international visitors. The key to this remarkable growth lies in the country’s strategic tourism initiatives, including the expansion of visa policies, the promotion of diverse tourism products, and a concerted effort to attract travelers from across the globe.

According to the National Statistics Office under the Ministry of Finance, Vietnam has seen a 21.5% year-on-year increase in international visitor arrivals, reaching 15.4 million in the first nine months of 2025. This surge is a clear indication of the positive impact of the government’s policies and the vibrant appeal of Vietnam as a tourist destination. Tourism revenue has also followed suit, with an estimated 69.6 trillion VND (2.6 billion USD), reflecting a 20.5% year-on-year rise.

Several localities have shown strong growth in attracting international tourists, with Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Quang Ninh, and Da Nang all registering impressive increases. Ho Chi Minh City recorded a 24.3% rise in international visitors, while Hanoi saw an increase of 21.9%. Quang Ninh and Da Nang also performed well, with 20.2% and 13.2% growth, respectively.

However, despite the peak travel season and these positive figures, Vietnam is still grappling with the aftermath of natural disasters, including storms and floods that have affected several key tourist destinations. These challenges threaten to hinder the country from reaching its ambitious goal of welcoming 25 million visitors in 2025. Yet, the government is committed to overcoming these hurdles, with policies aimed at mitigating the impact of these events on tourism and implementing innovative solutions across the sector.

The rise in tourism arrivals can be attributed to several key source markets, each contributing significantly to the influx of international visitors. These markets include countries in Asia, Europe, and North America, all of which have shown an increased interest in visiting Vietnam.

South Korea remains the largest source of international visitors to Vietnam, accounting for 24% of total arrivals in 2024. This translates to approximately 3.6 million South Korean tourists visiting the country. The strong demand from South Korea is partly driven by Vietnam’s proximity to the country, making it an easy and affordable destination for South Korean travelers seeking cultural experiences and scenic beauty. The Vietnamese government’s efforts to enhance bilateral tourism ties with South Korea have also played a pivotal role in this surge.

China follows closely behind South Korea, contributing around 18% of total arrivals, with approximately 2.7 million visitors. The resurgence of Chinese tourism is largely attributed to the easing of travel restrictions and the restoration of direct flight routes between the two countries. The Chinese market is a key target for Vietnam’s tourism sector, as the country has long been a popular destination for Chinese tourists seeking a blend of history, culture, and natural landscapes.

Taiwan has emerged as a significant contributor to Vietnam’s tourism growth. In 2024, arrivals from Taiwan increased by a staggering 123%, demonstrating a growing interest in Vietnam among Taiwanese travelers. Factors such as affordable travel options, favorable visa policies, and promotional efforts targeted at Taiwanese tourists have driven this surge.

The United States market has also shown robust growth, with approximately 900,000 American tourists visiting Vietnam in 2024. The U.S. market is important for Vietnam’s tourism strategy, with Americans seeking a diverse range of experiences, from cultural immersion to eco-tourism and adventure travel. The ease of access, along with Vietnam’s expanding tourism offerings, has made it an increasingly popular destination for U.S. travelers.

Japan has consistently been a strong source market for Vietnam, contributing around 800,000 tourists in 2024. The close historical and cultural ties between the two countries, along with Vietnam’s appeal as a low-cost yet high-quality destination, make it an attractive option for Japanese travelers.

In addition to the traditional source markets, emerging countries like India and Australia have also contributed significantly to the growth of Vietnam’s tourism sector. These markets have shown an increasing interest in Vietnam, driven by targeted promotional campaigns and the country’s expanding international reputation.

India has been identified as one of the fastest-growing markets for Vietnam’s tourism. The growth in Indian tourism can be attributed to the successful targeting of high-profile events and promotional campaigns that have piqued the interest of Indian travelers. Additionally, direct flight routes between India and Vietnam have made it easier for Indian tourists to visit, contributing to the increase in arrivals.

Australia has seen a 54% increase in travel to Vietnam during the first quarter of 2025 compared to the same period in 2019. This surge is a result of Vietnam’s cultural richness, affordability, and improved accessibility. Australian tourists are particularly attracted to Vietnam’s unique cultural experiences, its bustling cities, and its rich natural landscapes.

Vietnam’s tourism growth is a result of a well-coordinated strategy that includes visa reforms, targeted promotions, and infrastructure enhancements. These efforts have played a pivotal role in attracting more international visitors and boosting the overall appeal of Vietnam as a must-visit destination.

One of the most significant factors contributing to the surge in international visitors is Vietnam’s visa reforms. The extension of the e-visa validity to 90 days and the expansion of visa exemptions to citizens from 24 countries have simplified the travel process, making it easier for tourists to visit the country. These changes have helped Vietnam stand out in the highly competitive tourism market, attracting visitors from across the globe.

Vietnam has also implemented focused marketing campaigns in key markets such as South Korea, China, Japan, and India. These campaigns have effectively attracted tourists by showcasing Vietnam’s unique offerings, including its rich cultural heritage, beautiful landscapes, and diverse tourism products. The government has also invested in partnerships with international travel companies and organizations to increase visibility and attract more visitors.

To support the growing number of international visitors, Vietnam has made significant investments in tourism infrastructure. Improvements in flight connectivity, modernized airports, and enhanced hotel and transport services have all contributed to an improved travel experience for visitors. These developments have made Vietnam a more accessible and comfortable destination for tourists from all over the world.

Localities across Vietnam are also playing an active role in boosting tourism in the final months of 2025. Ho Chi Minh City has been promoting waterway tourism, offering visitors a unique way to explore the city’s canals and rivers. Quang Ninh province is hosting festivals and launching year-end tourism stimulus packages to draw in more visitors. Meanwhile, Da Nang has opened a new direct flight route from Singapore to increase accessibility for international travelers.

In Hanoi, the Autumn Fair 2025 (October 26-November 4) and the Thang Long – Hanoi Festival (November 1-16) are being held to showcase the capital city’s rich cultural heritage and vibrant spirit. These events serve as a platform to promote Vietnam’s cultural brand globally and attract more visitors during the autumn season.

With just three months left in the year, Vietnam faces the challenge of welcoming around 10 million additional international visitors to meet its ambitious tourism goal of 25 million by the end of 2025. However, the government is committed to accelerating efforts to achieve this target. The introduction of the “VITA Famtrip 2025” initiative, which will bring travel industry leaders from key markets to Vietnam, is expected to generate significant interest and foster new partnerships.

The Deputy Prime Minister of Vietnam, Mai Van Chinh, has also outlined several key tasks for ministries, agencies, and localities to focus on in the coming months. These tasks include developing plans to promote Vietnamese tourism and cuisine abroad for the 2026-2030 period, boosting tourism programs linked to festivals, culture, and local cuisine, and innovating and enhancing tourism promotion and marketing efforts.

US unites with Japan, Australia, South Korea, and China to fuel Vietnam’s tourism boom in 2025, driven by strategic visa reforms, targeted marketing campaigns, and improved connectivity. These initiatives are positioning Vietnam as a top global destination, attracting millions of international visitors.

Vietnam’s tourism sector is on the cusp of reaching new heights. With a combination of strategic policies, innovative tourism products, and targeted promotions, the country is set to attract millions of international visitors in 2025. The collaboration between the government, local businesses, and key source markets such as the US, Japan, South Korea, China, and others, has positioned Vietnam as one of Asia’s most exciting and dynamic tourism destinations. As Vietnam continues to diversify its tourism offerings and improve accessibility, it is well on track to achieve its goal of becoming a leading global tourism hub.
