FORMER Oxford United promotion hero Alfie Potter has signed a new deal which will extend his stay at neighbours Oxford City to a sixth season.
The 36-year-old began his professional career at Peterborough United, and he scored a memorable goal against Liverpool in the fourth round of the FA Cup while on loan at Havant & Waterlooville.
Potter joined the U’s on loan in July 2009, scoring six goals in 25 Conference matches, including the third as United beat York City 3-1 in the play-off final at Wembley.
He then signed for the U’s on a permanent basis, and scored a further 22 goals in 167 games, before joining AFC Wimbledon in January 2015.
After further permanent stints at Northampton Town, Mansfield Town and Billericay Town, Potter signed for the Hoops in December 2020.
Potter played an important role when the Hoops won promotion to the Vanarama National League in the 2022/23 campaign.

After signing a contract to remain with the Hoops ahead of the 2025/26 season, Potter told the Hoops website: “I’m buzzing to sign up for another year. I’ve loved my time at the club and I’m grateful for the continued belief and support.
“I can’t wait to get back on the pitch and give everything to drive this club forward.”
Hoops manager Ross Jenkins added: “It’s brilliant to get Alfie signed ahead of next season. He’s a player with great experience, knowledge and he’s versatile.
“He’ll also benefit the younger players in the group who will learn from him and the standards he sets in training.”
Potter joins fellow midfielders Zac McEachran and Josh Ashby in remaining with the Hoops ahead of next season.
McEachran scored 11 goals and registered seven assists in National League North during the most recent campaign, and has been a long-term key player for the Hoops, while Ashby was named the Hoops’ players’ player of the season and the staff members’ player of the season, and takes over the club captaincy from the departing Reece Fleet.
