Headed by the Deputy Head of the Ideological Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, Marydé Fernández, The highest authority of the Union of Journalists of Cuba (UPEC) agreed on the presentation of the National Strategy for the use of AI in the media system of the Caribbean island.
The projection will contain proposals by type of media, as well as the update of the Code of Ethics for its professionals, specified the participants among wich was also present the president of the Institute of Information and Social Communication, Alfonso Noya.
According to the first vice-president of the organization, Bolivia Tamara Cruz, the analysis was based on the experience of a group of press organs that stand out for the use of this technology for optimizing the production and dissemination of content.
In that sense he mentioned Radio Sancti Spiritus, the newspaper Trabajadores, Ideas Multimedia and the magazine Juventud Técnica, whose experiences were evaluated in a recent training course on the subject, and which serve as a basis for the elaboration of these strategies.
The representatives of the guild recognized the opportunities offered by AI for the automation of journalistic processes among journalists, processing of technical information, applications to produce press releases, texts guardianship and identifying trends.
They also urged the proper use of the tool for work streamlining and optimization, historical memory recovery, processing of photos and videos, conversion of audio into texts and production of spots and audiovisual capsules, among other resources.
The plenary called for the creation of laboratories for the use of AI, as well as its application on national media system websites in order to increase the effectiveness of these digital platforms.
The meeting also evaluated the progress of the experiment for changing the management models of the press system in the country, and the state of the infrastructure of the sector institutions for the journalistic exercise.
The meeting also approved the plan of activities for the centenary of the birth of the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro (1926-2026), considered among the most important world figures of the twentieth century.
