American Express has officially rolled out Amex Passport digital Stamps for U.S. Consumer Card Members, part of an expansive travel-tech initiative. These digital keepsakes, minted on Base, an Ethereum Layer 2 blockchain, allow Card Members to collect and showcase memorable moments from their international trips. As physical passport stamps grow increasingly rare across borders, the Amex Passport feature steps in with an authenticated, modern token that honours the spirit of travel in a secure and easily shareable format.
Each Stamp represents the country or region visited and is generated when Card Members make qualifying transactions abroad. The tokens follow the ERC-721 format, are non-tradable, and exist solely as durable souvenirs rather than financial assets. Card Members can customise Stamps with trip highlights, making them a personalised record of where they have travelled. This approach offers travellers a way to store and share memories in a format that is secure, visually engaging, and accessible long after the journey has ended.
Access to Amex Passport currently sits inside the American Express mobile app under Account → Settings → Try New Features. Once enabled, the tool generates Stamps automatically for eligible international transactions. Amex has confirmed that future integration with the newly announced Amex Travel App is expected, creating a unified space where planning, booking and memory-keeping could eventually coexist.
The launch of Amex Passport coincides with the introduction of the dedicated Amex Travel App, an all-in-one tool designed to simplify the traveller journey from inspiration through booking. According to American Express, the app will debut on iOS on 18 September 2025, with Android availability following in the weeks after. In surveys cited by the company, 81 percent of travellers expressed interest in a single application that combines inspiration, booking, and benefit management, highlighting strong demand for this type of integrated platform.
Beyond commemoration and booking, Amex has also added functionality to its Centurion Lounge Digital Waitlist. Travellers visiting a lounge at capacity will now see estimated wait times, helping them plan their time in airports more efficiently. This update supports the wider goal of reducing friction in premium travel experiences while maintaining convenience for Card Members.
The introduction of Amex Passport speaks directly to a cultural shift in how travellers value their journeys. For decades, passport stamps served as cherished mementoes, with each mark telling a story of movement across borders. As more countries phase out physical stamps, Amex Passport fills the gap by providing a digital equivalent, one that blends tradition with innovation.
For travellers, the significance goes beyond collecting icons on a screen. Each Stamp symbolises a verified milestone, secured by blockchain technology, and offers a way to share travel stories in a format that carries authenticity. In an era where digital souvenirs and social sharing are key parts of the travel experience, Amex Passport positions itself as a bridge between the practicalities of global movement and the emotional resonance of travel memories.
When paired with the new Amex Travel App and the lounge enhancements, the initiative creates a fuller ecosystem. Travellers can plan trips, track benefits, manage bookings, and commemorate destinations all within the American Express digital environment. By centralising these functions, Amex strengthens its role as both a financial partner and a travel companion.
Travellers are discovering that modern trips can be more than itineraries, they can be rich, shareable stories. The new U.S. Amex Passport digital Stamps give that story a locked, tamper-proof chapter, automatically minting a small verified souvenir every time you cross a border or complete an international purchase. Slotted into an enhanced travel planner that curates gateside lounges, earlier boarding, and smart routing, the reward shrinks the gap between the distant moment and the instant memory. The platform thus tailors the heavy lifting for curious, digitally savvy explorers who expect tomorrow’s comforts and want proof that their journeys really happened.
