A one-of-a-kind holiday home in Devon has been voted one of the most-wanted in the UK in 2025.
Holiday Cottages picked its top 10 properties, with Cornwall scooping the top spot. Securing fifth place is The Gun House, a truly unique property in Shaldon.
A former military guard tower overlooking the coast, this historic gem offers a truly one-of-a-kind stay. Its unique history and luxurious finish make it a must-book destination.
It has even appeared on George Clarke’s Amazing Spaces. The are currently dates available in February, March and April. There are three, four, seven and 14 night options.
The Holiday Cottages listing states: “This former guard tower once providing soldiers shelter to guard the Shaldon coastal defences, now provides a breath-taking retreat for couples during all seasons.
“Featured on George Clarke’s Amazing Spaces, indulge yourself with the ever-changing views of the stunning waterside location on the south bank of the River Teign. A short 50 metre stroll to the beach where you can take a ferry trip across to Teignmouth or visit the hidden Ness Cove beach accessed via an original smuggles tunnel 0.2 miles away.

The Gun House wasn’t the only Devon property to make Holiday Cottages list. Eighth place is taken by West Farleigh Barn in Cadeleigh, near Tiverton.
