The Union of Romanian Musicians’ Performing Arts (UCIMR) announces the launch of the fifth edition of JAZZ BASTION, which brings three concert-events taking place on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at the Weavers’ Bastion in Brașov, part of the Brașov County History Museum. The concerts will feature renowned musicians and young artists from three countries (Romania, Ireland, and Switzerland).
This year’s edition celebrates the cultural diversity of music, reminding us that music always brings together artists and audiences alike, regardless of language, nationality, or personal affinities. With the theme MARATHON, the festival is dedicated to long-distance music lovers. JAZZ BASTION thus becomes the perfect setting for iconic artists and young talents to meet with an audience eager for top-level acoustic experiences.
In the month of August, Brașov becomes the meeting point for established artists and the young generation of jazz musicians who will delight the audience with diverse styles and sounds during three special concerts. Each performance will open the gates to vibrant soundscapes, reflecting the richness of European interpretative styles. This year’s special guests include the Ana Cristina Leonte Quartet, alongside young musicians from Romania, Ireland, and Switzerland, coming from Dublin City University and Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSLU).

Jazz Bastion is a jazz concert season launched in 2021 to support and promote young artists.
During the pandemic, the Weavers’ Bastion became an outdoor venue dedicated to safely hosting artistic events. It presented musical productions from the Philharmonic and Opera, as well as theater performances that could not take place indoors. As a result, the Weavers’ Bastion was later “renamed” the Bastion of the Artists – a curatorial concept developed by the Brașov County History Museum, staying true to its purpose of sheltering the arts.
The first edition of the JAZZ BASTION multi-annual project was born out of the pandemic context, with the theme art as therapy, and showcased music’s healing power through the personal experiences of artists who turned emotions like sadness or despair into artistic moments. Through project calls, multidisciplinary collaborations emerged between music and poetry, turning JAZZ BASTION into a beloved venue for both locals and tourists.
Brașov County History Museum
The Brașov County History Museum is one of the most important public cultural institutions in the county. It holds the largest historical mobile heritage in Brașov County (159,255 items), covering all historical periods from prehistory to the contemporary era. It leads local museums in terms of annual visitor numbers, including young audiences and students. The museum organizes a variety of cultural events (exhibitions, seminars, conferences, debates, festivals, etc.) in partnership with public or private institutions and organizations.
During the pandemic, when the artistic sector was among the most severely affected, the “Bastion of the Artists” project was born in Brașov, an initiative of manager Nicolae Pepene, who opened the Weavers’ Bastion to cultural institutions as an alternative outdoor space for safely holding events. Launched with the slogan “If you like art, you can look down on us”, the local project quickly gained interest among independent artists and grew into a national phenomenon, generating full summer seasons in 2020, 2021, and 2022.
