The University of Cincinnati Clermont College Art Gallery presents the watercolor exhibit “Coming of Age: Hairitage” by artist Erin Smith Glenn through March 5.
An opening reception will be held Tuesday, Feb. 17 from 12:30-1:30 p.m. in the UC Clermont Art Gallery, Snyder Building room 140.
Smith Glenn is an associate professor of art and Central State University alum who holds an MFA in 2D studio art from the University of Cincinnati. A widely exhibited mixed‑media artist, she has shown work across the United States, earned multiple honors and served as the inaugural artist for the new Elizabeth Nourse Gallery at the Clifton Cultural Arts Center. Her work and interviews have been featured in notable publications and public installations, and she continues to expand her impact through brand ambassadorships, international art-history travel programs, and community engagement.
Dedicated to elevating the visibility of black women in the arts, Smith Glenn strives to inspire her students, her children and future generations through her creative practice and advocacy. “Hairitage” uses two-dimensional works, installations and interactive works to engage the senses and address black hair culture “in a way that demands attention,” said Smith Glenn.
“These works beg to justify the discriminations against black hair culture, command the viewer and ultimately uphold the values of my ancestors,” Smith Glenn said.
