U.S. Congress Pushes For Blockchain Research In Veterans Affairs Department

The U.S. Congress has passed a law that directs the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to look into the potential applications of blockchain technology. Coinpedia reported on July 24, 2025, that this legislative measure shows the growing interest in using innovative digital solutions to solve long-standing problems in veterans’ care.

Blockchain technology is known for being decentralized and safe, which makes it useful for the VA in a number of ways. Blockchain can protect sensitive information like medical records and benefits claims by keeping an unchangeable ledger.

This might cut down on fraud, make administrative tasks easier, and build trust among veterans. The measure stresses the importance of getting input from experts and veteran groups to make sure the study meets real-world needs. This is in line with the VA’s objective to provide high-quality care and assistance.

The law says that the VA Secretary must do a full study within a year and send the results to Congress. The study will look into how blockchain may be used in real life, such as how it can be added to current systems. Some of the most important areas of concentration are:

The project also emphasizes collaboration with blockchain professionals and veteran-focused organizations to ensure that solutions are tailored to meet the unique needs of veterans.

This push for blockchain research is part of a larger attempt to modernize the VA’s outdated systems. By adopting Blockchain technology, the VA can improve efficiency and set a strong example for other federal agencies to follow, potentially driving innovation across government services.

The results of the study could affect future policies, which would mean that pilot programs or full-scale blockchain use will happen. This might make the VA a leader in new ways of running things, which would make life better for millions of veterans.
