During an appearance on The Viall Files podcast on Wednesday, June 18, host Nick Viall 44, asked Cameron, “How’s you friend Matt James doing?”
“He’s doing good, he’s doing good,” the Bachelor Nation alum, 32, responded.
As fans may recall, James, a former lead of The Bachelor, went viral in January for announcing his split from Kirkconnell in an Instagram post, which she later claimed left her blindsided.
Viall then revealed that he had texted James, 33, inquiring about his side of the story regarding the breakup with Kirkconnell, 28, but he never responded. Cameron explained, “I think for him the best thing to do is like let it die, and be done with it, you know.”
Cameron’s girlfriend, Tate Madden, who was also a guest on the podcast, chimed in, saying, “I think he knows and probably regrets…Decisions were made.”
“Everyone, you saw the interviews and stuff,” Cameron said, seemingly referring to Kirkconnell’s appearance on Call Her Daddy. “They both needed to be broken up and they needed to go their separate ways and they needed to figure it out at the end of the day.”
After Madden agreed with Cameron, she hinted at the infamous breakup post, to which Cameron responded, “I think the breakup post, he regrets it. It was weird and it transcended my beliefs.”
Madden then quipped that the post was “otherworldly.”
Cameron still showed support for his friend, saying, “I still love Matt, but once things like that blow up in your face sometimes it’s best to just kind of let it go past.”

James shared the news of the couple’s split with a prayer on Instagram on Jan. 16, writing, “Father God, give Rachael and I strength to mend our broken hearts. Give us a peace about this decision to end our relationship that transcends worldly understanding. Shower our friends and family with kindness and love to comfort us. And remind us that our Joy comes from you, Lord 💔.”
Kirkconnell subsequently opened up about his announcement, which she claimed left her blindsided, in an episode of Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy podcast.
She explained that she saw The Bachelor alum’s social media post shortly before a 12-hour flight and was unaware that he planned to share their recent breakup news with the “whole world.”
“I’m still in total shock,” Kirkconnell said at the time. “I think that’s why I didn’t say anything. Still haven’t made a statement or anything because I’m processing this just like everyone else is.”
