
Two Amherst houses were lost to separate fires within hours of each other, causing a total of $950,000 in damages, according to press releases from the Amherst Central Fire Alarm office.

Residents at 41 Burgundy Terrace called Amherst Fire Control around 10:07 p.m. Friday night to report a possible kitchen grease fire, according to a press release. The fire resulted in approximately $300,000 in damages: $250,000 structural and $50,000 in contents.
At approximately 7:02 a.m. Saturday, a passerby called Amherst Fire Control to report black smoke and flames rising from a residential home at 79 Covent Garden. Residents were evacuated from the home in what became a two-alarm fire. Total damages were about $650,000, with $500,000 structural and $150,000 in contents.

No injuries were reported at either fire and causes for both remain under investigation. Multiple fire companies responded to both fires, including Getzville, East Amherst, Snyder and Ellicott Creek, as well as other agencies.
