
A major avalanche has seen three skiers swept away in horror scenes off a popular hot spot for locals and torutists.
The incident, which occurred around noon local time today (February 7), saw skiers hit by avalanche while off-piste near Pizzo Meriggio, Albosaggia, in Italy.
Alarms were immediately raised as three helicopters and rescue teams were dispatched to help look those those injured or missing.
A complex and coordinated rescue was organised by air and successful managed to locate all three of the missing skiers.
However, the rescue heartbrokenly confirmed two deaths with the third person rushed to the hospital. The man, who is 53-years-old, was airlifted to Sondrio hospital where he remains in a critical condition.
