Local bookstore owner Alex Call has been praised by a TV star after he gave her a lift following a book signing at his store.
Steph McGovern was promoting her newest book, Dead Line, at Bert’s Books on July 3, by signing copies bought by locals.
Deadline is McGovern’s debut thriller that has been described as a “pacy, witty, engaging thriller, entertaining and delightfully authentic, but hard-hitting and thought-provoking too”.
The bookstore shared that she was signing books between 12pm and 2pm and had a shelf full of the newest publications.
However, afterwards, Steph took to Instagram to share that Alex was taking her back to the train station saying: “What a service.”
Steph McGovern is a journalist and presenter for the BBC and worked as the main business presenter for BBC Breakfast.
From 2020 to 2023, McGovern hosted ‘Steph’s Packed Lunch’ on Channel 4, which was broadcast in the daytime.

The North Shields-born personality was recently on Netflix’s Celebrity Bear Hunt, a show where 12 celebrities were hunted down by famous adventurer, Bear Grylls.
The show was located in Costa Rica and premiered in February 2025 – McGovern made it all the way to the end and was a runner-up.
