The Cowboys legend said leaving Belichick out of the Hall of Fame ‘defies logic.’
Members of the NFL world had a lot to discuss this week when they learned Bill Belichick would reportedly not be a first-ballot Hall of Famer in 2026.
Cowboys icon Troy Aikman, who entered the Hall of Fame in 2006, joined Sportsradio 96.7 FM/1310 The Ticket (KTCK-AM) on Thursday to elaborate on his thoughts on Belichick’s snub. Aikman and a few others shared their displeasure on social media when the Belichick report first surfaced earlier in the week.
“Like everyone, I haven’t heard from anyone that thinks any of it is warranted or justified. And yet, there were at least 11 voters that didn’t think he deserved to be a Hall of Famer,” Aikman said. “It’s a big black eye to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. I think everyone now questions the process. I think it tarnishes everyone who’s in the Hall of Fame.
“I mean, what’s it represent if Bill Belichick, who has won more Super Bowls than anybody — it’d be the equivalent of Tom Brady or Peyton Manning not being first-ballot Hall of Famers. It defies logic.”

Aikman added that he felt the credibility of the Hall of Fame was lost. He also wondered if this year’s entrants would boycott the induction ceremony in August if Belichick were left out.
Belichick, now the head football coach at the University of North Carolina, had a decorated NFL coaching career that spanned several decades. He posted a 333-178 record as an NFL head coach, leading the Patriots to six Super Bowl victories. He also won two Super Bowls as defensive coordinator of the New York Giants.

Aikman continued his response by asking for accountability from the Hall of Fame’s voters.
“You will not find a voter that says they didn’t vote for him. I mean, it’s the world we’re in. There’s no accountability at any level. I’m not even talking about just the Pro Football Hall of Fame. I’m talking about accountability in anything anymore,” Aikman said. “A few days ago, I saw where Bill Pollian said he was 95% certain that he voted for Bill? What is that? If you can’t remember who you voted for, you shouldn’t be on the panel.
“I’m not trying to pick on Bill, maybe he did. Maybe he had a senior moment, I have no idea. But at least 11 people did not vote for him and you’d be hard pressed to find one that admits that he didn’t.”
