Travis Head’s cheeky four-word dig during Ashes party

Aussie hero Travis Head drops cheeky four-word dig during Ashes celebration partyBen Sutton7NEWS SportMon, 22 December 2025 8:17AM

There’s no prizes for guessing who was in charge of Australia’s celebrations after winning the Ashes series inside 11 days.

Travis Head, of course, led the party, and fittingly it was in his hometown of Adelaide.

The celebrations immediately begun after Australia wrapped up the series with an 82-run win in the third Test at Adelaide Oval on Sunday.

But the planning was already in full swing, perhaps a bit too early as Head explained to Channel 7.

“I may have planned a few things last night for the boys over the next two days that I was sort of going, ‘oh have if I called it a bit early?’ I might have to cancel a few plans here,” he said after the match.

“And then thankfully Starcy’s made sure that I made the right decisions.”

After the post-match presentations and interviews, the entire Australian team and support staff went out to the middle of Adelaide Oval and sung True Blue by John Williamson.

That was of course the same song sung in a moving pre-match tribute to the victims of the devastating Bondi terror attack before the Test begun on Wednesday.

Alex Carey, now in charge of the Aussie team song, then led the traditional post-victory song ‘Under the Southern Cross’.

Players could be seen arm-in-arm for the rousing rendition before the champagne and beers were sprayed everywhere.

Head also had special ‘Ronball’ t-shirts made in a bit of dig at England’s famous Bazball era.

‘Ronball’ was first spotted in 2022 when a note appeared on the Australian rooms against the West Indies, but the term is nowhere near as prominent as Bazball.

While the players donned the t-shirts, most of the coaching staff, including Andrew McDonald, remained in their official attire.

After the players left the ground that’s when the party really got going.

Not many details are known about where they went or how late they were out, but a few posts from Head tell part of the story.

He captioned one photo of himself with skipper Pat Cummins: “Is it 2010 yet?”

That was a clear, but subtle dig at Stuart Broad labelling the current Australian team the worst since 2010.

He wasn’t the only player to reference the comment either.

“We have to say being called the worst Australian team in 15 years … it’s nice to be sitting where we are, 3-0 up,” Marnus Labuschagne said on ABC.

“The job’s not done yet, we want to make sure it’s 5-0 and really take that urn.”

Reminded of Broad’s comment and the scoreline, Cummins beamed.

“It’s great,” Cummins, who indicated he could set out the next two Tests to manage his back, said.

“There’s so much hype coming to the series, and you never really know how it’s going to play out. So, winning 3-0 is hugely satisfying for many reasons.

“But particularly I think a lot of the chat before the series is how evenly poised it’s going to be.

“To win it in straight sets, it doesn’t get much better than that.”

Pat Cummins’ classy act

Australian skipper Pat Cummins invited past players down to the rooms to celebrate with the team in a classy gesture.

A host of former greats were spotted in the rooms, including former coach Justin Langer.

Ricky Ponting, Matt Hayden, Darren Lehmann, Adam Gilchrist, Mark Taylor, Simon Katich and Jason Gillespie were just some of the famous names spotted in the rooms.

“Pat sent a message up here that he wanted to invite us down,” Gillespie told Code Sports.

“As ex-players you never want to go down to the dressing room unless you’re invited. You want to respect the fact it’s their time and their space.

“But to receive an invitation was lovely. They’re a great bunch of guys and the boys were so welcoming. It was great, it was a brilliant win.”

Australia’s incredible Ashes win was delivered despite the absence of key players throughout the series.

Josh Hazlewood didn’t play at all, Cummins missed the first two Tests, Steve Smith missed the third Test, while Usman Khawaja and Nathan Lyon were both left out of the second Test.

“We always talk about you need a full squad to win an Ashes series, a five-Test series,” Cummins said.

“That’s one of the things I’m most proud about with this group.

“There’s been huge disruption with some of the players.

“It’s how you deal with that. And this group’s just amazing at just cracking on. ‘What’s the job that needs to get done? We’ll just go and do it’.”
