A conference will take place on Saturday, October 18, in Cardiff to explore options for better representation of working-class and trade union interests, amid growing frustration with current government policies and the stance of Welsh Labour MPs.
The event will be held at the Holiday Inn on Castle Street and is open to all trade union members.
Dave Bartlett, secretary of Cardiff Trades Union Council, said: “Our members have been expressing concern for some time at government policy at both UK and Wales level and how it impacts working-class people in Wales, especially the government proposals to cut disability benefits, the anti-union behaviour of management at some Labour-run councils, the actions of government commissioners to attack Birmingham bin workers to force them to accept huge pay cuts and the inadequate response of the government to the horrifying massacres in Gaza.
“We have also been unhappy at the failure of Welsh Labour MPs to respond to our concerns.”
The conference has been called by five Welsh Trade Union Councils — Cardiff, Swansea, Newport, Merthyr, and Caerphilly — as well as the Welsh Public and Commercial Services civil service union, the Bakers Union, and has the backing of groups representing Tata steelworkers, Cardiff council workers, and civil servants.
Labour Party representatives have been invited to address the conference, and delegates have expressed an interest in finding out the views of Jeremy Corbyn’s Your Party.
