Swindon Town are in advanced negotiations for another signing, having missed out on a move for Joe Westley from Burnley this week.
Westley had been on Swindon’s radar across the summer, and they had stepped up their pursuit of him in the last two weeks; however, he ended up going to Dundee FC instead on a permanent deal.
Ian Holloway has now turned his attentions elsewhere to bolster his squad, although he did not reveal any details about the target; they are believed to be being tracked by clubs even higher up the pyramid than Swindon.
He said: “We lost the one we were going for. We’ve got another one lined up. Whether that’ll happen, I don’t know. I will probably know a bit more about that on Monday.
“I’m not telling anybody [whether it is the same position]. We’ll have to wait and see, really, and you’ll probably find out anyway; you’ll be able to tell me we’re signing, which is great. I’m not mentioning a word on that. I
“I’m sorry I can’t do that [reveal anything about the player], for the fact that I haven’t got them in, he’s not in the net yet.
“The other one you knew about [Westley], he ended up going to Dundee. I am devastated by that, because I really liked the kid, I wanted him, but that’s life.
“This next one, there’s an awful lot of people in for so we’ll have to wait and see.”
Holloway added that he still wants to bring in a player to fulfil the role that both Westley and Kabongo Tshimanga fulfilled last season, having been unable to bring either player back this summer.
He said: “We are going to have to earn the right. We have got to learn as a group how to win. And we’ve lost some of the ones who helped us do that.
“Kabs [Tshimanga] with him going, that’s why I’m still looking for that sort of profile because whilst we still have the others who resigned, we’ve just lost a very powerful adult, very sensible, wonderful human being. That’s what we’ve lost. So I’m trying to find another one.
“If it was Joe Wesley, I’d have had him all day long, because we know him. I was completely and utterly shocked that he was suddenly available.
“If I were Burnley, I wouldn’t have done that. So, I am in the market for that sort of type of [player] and we will see.”
