Tottenham star undergoes surgery after picking up injury on international duty | Football London

Yves Bissouma has revealed on Instagram that he has undergone surgery on his ankle.

The Mali international midfielder picked up the injury during a recent World Cup qualification match against Madagascar, shortly after entering the field.

Bissouma is yet to feature for Spurs this season after missing the start of the season with a separate issue which is understood to have scuppered a potential transfer to Turkish giants Fenerbahce.

He wrote on his social media profile, whilst posting an image from a hospital bed: “Everything went well. I thank God for everything that happens to me. Everything happens for a reason I’m simply following my destiny. Grateful to God for His protection.”

In the image, Bissouma’s left ankle is now in cast.

Speaking last Friday ahead of the 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa, Thomas Frank revealed the ex-Brighton man was set for a spell on the sidelines.

The Dane said: “Biss unfortunately had a situation with the national team, I think everyone saw that unfortunately, so he got a ligament injury to his ankle, they’ll keep him out for weeks.”

It’s been a difficult start to the campaign for the 29-year-old, who is out of contract at the end of the season.

Last term, Bissouma came in from the cold following honest discussions with Ange Postecoglou to play a crucial role in their Europa League triumph.

But this time around, he’s been on the periphery of Frank’s plans – partially due to fitness problems – and was omitted from the travelling squad to Udine for the Super Cup defeat to PSG due to lateness.
