INTERIOR Secretary Jonvic Remulla has expressed support for the decision of Philippine National Police chief (PNP) Gen. Nicolas Torre III to relieve commanders for their failure to respond to emergency calls within 5 minutes.
“Everyone has to be sharper; people expect more. Now is the time that they have to up their game…. We have to respond to the people,” Remulla said Wednesday after gracing the ceremonial turnover of fire extinguishers at Culiat High School in Quezon City.
In mid-June this year, Remulla said that the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) would shoulder all expenses for purchases of patrol vehicles to improve police visibility and mobility.
Early last month, Torre implemented the 5-minute response time rule. Days later, eight city police commanders were relieved for their slow response.
Torre said that emergency situations need not be reported to precincts anymore.
