The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has condemned the killing of about 170 people in Kwara State, describing the attack as evidence of a total collapse of security under the Federal Government led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In a statement to Naija News on Friday and signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party questioned what had become of the President’s declaration of a state of emergency on security and the promised recruitment of thousands of police officers.

According to the ADC, the continued mass killings across the country suggest that the measures were either ineffective or were merely declarations in the first place.

The party also queried whether the heightened security activities witnessed last year, following comments by the President of the United States, were aimed at earning international approval rather than addressing insecurity at home.

The ADC said the scale and frequency of killings nationwide show that whatever steps the government claims to have taken are not working, adding that the current approach is merely redistributing terror rather than eliminating it.

The party noted growing concerns that the attackers may be part of terrorist elements recently dispersed by United States Christmas Day military action in Sokoto State, who are now relocating to other states due to weak internal security coordination.

It said the implication of such movements, evident from large-scale killings in areas previously considered safe, is that the Tinubu administration is not winning the war against terror.

The party said incidents ranging from mass abductions in Kaduna State to mass killings in Kwara State highlight deep structural failures in Nigeria’s internal security system.

It identified intelligence gathering, border control, inter-agency collaboration and emergency response capability as major weak points.

Former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili, has accused the Senate and House of Representatives of deliberately undermining electoral reforms and betraying public trust following their handling of proposed amendments to the Electoral Act.

Ezekwesili’s comments followed the Senate’s recent decision to vote against a proposed amendment to the Electoral Act (Amendment) Bill that would have made the electronic transmission of election results mandatory.

Naija News reports that Ezekwesili, in a memo titled ‘Nigerian Senate, Senators, and the Political Class at Large Know When to Stop Playing with Fire’, shared on 𝕏, asserted that the lawmakers have demonstrated a pattern of conduct that prioritises personal and partisan interests over national development and the will of citizens.

According to the former World Bank Vice President, the refusal to make real-time uploads from polling units mandatory is a calculated move to preserve a discretionary loophole.

Ezekwesili rejected the Senate’s claim that it did not oppose electronic transmission, stressing that the brazen actions were neither an innocent choice nor a technical oversight, nor a neutral legislative compromise of ‘letting sleeping dogs lie’.

She listed several alleged failures of the legislature, including blocking or watering down electoral and anti-corruption reforms, approving inflated legislative budgets while public services deteriorate, and confirming “clearly unfit nominees” for executive positions in exchange for political favours.

The Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU) has suspended its nationwide strike after 84 days of industrial action.

The decision followed an expanded National Executive Council emergency meeting held in Abuja on Friday, February 5.

The meeting, it was gathered, was convened to review the outcomes of the Federal Government-JOHESU conciliation meeting held on Thursday at the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment headquarters.

According to a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, the union said the strike had been suspended to allow for the implementation of the FG-JOHESU Terms of Settlement.

JOHESU stated that the decision was taken after deliberations on the resolutions reached during the conciliation engagement with the Federal Government.

Former lawmaker, Dino Melaye, has alleged that the Senate is plotting to rig the 2027 election following the reported rejection of electronic transmission of election results.

Naija News reports that Maleye, in a statement on Friday, criticised the Senate’s decision, calling it a blow to the credibility of the electoral process.

According to Melaye, the move is an explicit endorsement of election rigging and an indication of a sinister plan to rig the 2027 elections.

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain also stated that the move opens the door for electoral manipulation and fraud, stressing that the rejection of electronic transmission of results is a step backwards for democracy in Nigeria.

Melaye called on lawmakers and citizens to stand up against “this blatant attempt to undermine the will of the people and ensure that future elections are free, fair, and transparent”.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has released a revised timetable for its nationwide congresses, national convention, and related activities ahead of the 2026 general elections.

In an official notice shared via its 𝕏 (formerly Twitter) handle on Friday, the ruling party said all timelines had been updated to reflect internal organisational needs and to ensure a smooth and transparent process across all levels.

“The Expression of Interest Form and the Nomination Form will be available for purchase and collection at the Directorate of Organisation, 2nd Floor, APC National Secretariat, No. 40 Blantyre Street, Wuse 2, Abuja,” the statement read.

The APC emphasised that only forms procured from the national secretariat will be recognised in the ongoing party processes, warning against the use of unauthorised channels.

The party noted that the adjustment of dates and internal procedures is part of a broader plan to reinforce internal democracy and ensure that party activities are conducted in a structured and inclusive manner.

In a separate update, the APC also announced adjustments to the 2026 National Convention Central Coordination Committee, reflecting strategic zoning arrangements and the need for balanced representation.

The revised structure comes just weeks after the party announced major leadership changes in the committee, including the replacement of Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma with former Katsina State Governor Aminu Bello Masari as chairman.

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has launched a formal investigation into alleged certificate forgery involving former Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, Premium Times has reported.

The probe comes after a painstaking two‑year investigation by Premium Times, first published in October 2025, which revealed that Nnaji allegedly forged his degree and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificates submitted during his ministerial confirmation in 2023. The revelations triggered his resignation from office three days after the report went public.

Sources familiar with the development told Premium Times that the ICPC has written to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, and the Nigerian Senate, demanding copies of the documents Nnaji submitted in support of his ministerial appointment.

“The anti‑graft agency … also contacted the Nigerian Senate for the same purpose,” a source said.

If the investigation confirms the allegations, the former minister could face prosecution for forgery and related offences under Nigerian law.

A police investigation report has indicted Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan over allegations that she told a United States-based activist that Senate President Godswill Akpabio was involved in the murder of late Iniobong Umoren and the harvesting of her organs.

Naija News understands that the report, dated February 3, 2026, was signed by the Commissioner of Police, Police Monitoring Unit, Force Headquarters, Abuja, Akin Fakorede, and addressed to the President of the Unique Family Foundation, Sandra Duru.

According to the police, Duru petitioned the Inspector-General of Police in April 2025, alleging that Akpoti-Uduaghan contacted her on March 27, 2025, and claimed that Akpabio and his wife, Unoma, were responsible for the killing of Iniobong Umoren and the harvesting of her organs to “treat” the Senate president’s wife.

The petitioner said she reported the allegation to the police and requested a full investigation.

The dispute between Akpabio and Akpoti-Uduaghan dates back to February 2025, when the Kogi Central senator accused the Senate leadership under Akpabio of marginalisation and unfair treatment — claims the Senate president repeatedly denied.

Akpoti-Uduaghan was later suspended by the Senate for six months.

She also accused Akpabio of sexual harassment, an allegation he denied. The disagreements later escalated into public exchanges in the media and on social platforms, deepening political friction between both lawmakers.

According to Premium Times, the police report stated that Akpoti-Uduaghan was invited and made a cautionary statement on April 28, 2025, in which she denied making the allegation.

A key witness, Ina Okopi Agu, who allegedly provided Duru’s phone number to the senator, was also invited and made a voluntary statement confirming the circumstances that led to the call.

The police said a forensic voice analysis conducted on the audio recording confirmed that the voice in the conversation was human.

Detectives were also deployed to Akwa Ibom State to review the murder of Iniobong Umoren, including the post-mortem report, trial records and interviews with her relatives.

It added that members of Umoren’s family confirmed that no organs were removed from her body.

Certified true copies of the trial records of Uduak Frank Akpan, who was convicted and sentenced to death for Umoren’s murder in 2021, were also examined by investigators.

Nigerian music star Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has opened up about mistakes he made in both his career and personal life.

Naija News reports that the veteran singer revealed this while appearing as a guest on the Mic On podcast.

The father of six shared regrets about choices he wishes he could change and moments he could handle differently.

The singer also addressed a past incident in London involving an argument with his wife, Natasha Osawaru, which led to his arrest in October 2025.

He admitted responsibility for his actions and described the situation as a moment of anger that got out of hand.

“I was angry that day. It was an unfortunate incident,” the singer said.

2Face spoke about the challenges of handling personal pressures and the lessons he has learned from experiences that tested him.

He reflected on how, as a human being, there are times when decisions are influenced by emotion, and he wishes he had handled some situations more carefully.

Nigerian singer, Oludemilade Martin Alejolisten, known professionally as Ycee, has expressed his wish for members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) government in 2027.

Naija News reports that Ycee, in a post on Friday via 𝕏, stated that ousting the APC government in 2027 is not enough.

He stated that all of the politicians should be publicly shamed, hanged from the gallows, incarcerated, put down like rabid dogs, exiled from the land, fired by a firing squad and executed by lethal injection.

According to the singer, Nigerians should be angry with the current crop of politicians in the APC government.

Barcelona have been paired with Atletico Madrid in the semi-finals of the 2025-2026 Copa del Rey, setting up a blockbuster clash between two of Spain’s biggest clubs.

Hansi Flick’s side booked their place in the last four of the Copa del Rey with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Albacete on Tuesday, with goals from Lamine Yamal and Ronald Araujo sealing progress. Atletico Madrid followed on Thursday with a ruthless 5-0 demolition of Real Betis.

The other semi-final promises just as much drama, as Real Sociedad and Athletic Club prepare to meet in an all-Basque derby.

Barcelona have been paired with Atletico Madrid in the semi-finals of the 2025-2026 Copa del Rey, setting up a blockbuster clash between two of Spain’s biggest clubs.

Both ties will be played over two legs. The first legs are scheduled for mid-February, between the 10th and 12th, with Atletico hosting Barcelona at the Metropolitano and Athletic welcoming Real Sociedad to San Mames. The return legs are set for early March, between the 3rd and 5th.

The winners will advance to the final, which will be staged at La Cartuja in Seville in April.

The draw was conducted on Friday afternoon at the headquarters of the Royal Spanish Football Federation in Las Rozas, with four historic clubs left in the competition. Barcelona have emerged as favourites following Real Madrid’s exit, although all four remaining teams have lifted the trophy within the last 13 years.

Barcelona’s quarter-final win over Albacete was not without drama, requiring a late goal-line clearance from Gerard Martin to preserve their lead. Atletico, by contrast, enjoyed the most comfortable passage through, while both Basque clubs relied on late goals from Orri Oskarsson and Inaki Williams to overcome Alaves and Valencia, respectively.
