Tinubu’s transport, security reforms bringing farmers back to their lands

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s ongoing reforms in the transport and security sectors are beginning to yield tangible results, with farmers in previously volatile regions now returning to their farmlands, according to the executive director of mobility company XpressRide, Ismaila Yusuf Atus.

Atus, in a statement marking Nigeria’s 65 years of independence, noted that deliberate government policies ranging from rail expansion and federal highway rehabilitation to enhanced intelligence coordination and support for security agencies are creating the conditions needed for economic activities to thrive again in rural communities.

He explained that improved transportation networks are already reducing travel times, connecting rural and urban areas, and attracting new investment into logistics and passenger mobility services.

The ripple effects, he noted, are being felt across multiple sectors, from agriculture and trade to healthcare and education.

He lauded initiatives in agriculture, such as the National Agricultural Development Fund and fertiliser subsidy schemes, which he said complement transport reforms by ensuring that farm produce can move efficiently from rural communities to urban markets, thereby reducing post-harvest losses and stabilising food prices.

“These interventions are laying the foundation for self-sufficiency and food security. The renewed focus on supporting smallholder farmers and commercial agriculture will transform rural economies and create millions of jobs,” Atus said.

“At no time in recent years have we seen such deliberate efforts to modernise Nigeria’s transport system. The revival of critical rail corridors, renewed investments in interstate road networks, and policies that support tech-driven mobility solutions like ride-hailing are transforming the way people and goods move across the country.”

“At the heart of any thriving economy is a reliable transport system. President Tinubu understands this and is making transportation the backbone of national growth. Efficient mobility is not just about moving people; it’s about unlocking economic opportunities, improving access to essential services, and strengthening national cohesion.”
