Surulere, Lagos state – The Chief of Staff to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, said he became a lawyer after failing to become a soldier.

Gbajabiamila disclosed that he made several attempts to become a soldier as a young man because of his love for the military.

He lamented that he settled for the legal profession when he failed to make it into the military.

As reported by Vanguard, Gbajabiamila described soldiers as admirable professionals that is deep and enduring.

Gbajabiamila stated while inaugurating a 1,200-seater auditorium named Bola Tinubu Hall at Albalti Army Barracks, Surulere, Lagos State.

The auditorium is one of the projects Gbajabiamila facilitated at the barracks on Friday, September 5, 2025.

“I actually wanted to be a soldier, but the problem at recruitment interviews then was either my weight or my size.

“When I looked at the people to my right who were also attempting, and looked at the people to my left who also came for the interview, no one needed to tell me to go home.

“It was when I could not join the military that I became a lawyer. I admire soldiers so much. They are an inspiration to people like us.”

Gbajabiamila commended the Nigerian military for making sacrifices to help to preserve the unity of the country.

Tinubu’s Chief of Staff also hailed the military for protecting Nigeria’s democracy and for its efforts at ensuring its stability.

Gbajabiamila said he facilitated the auditorium at the barracks and other projects to appreciate the pivotal role the military play in nation-building .

He said the military personnel at the barracks could hold programmes and events, such as training, social functions and other activities, at the conducive facility.

Recall that Gbajabiamila made a major move to gather support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in the 2027 election.

Gbajabiamila met with political leaders in northern Nigeria, particularly ex-legislators, and explained why Tinubu should be voted into power for a second term in office.

Legit.ng reported that Gbajabiamila made this move after Reno Omokri urged northern elites to support Tinubu’s second-term agenda and issued a warning.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that Gbajabiamila welcomed the opposition’s formation of the ADC coalition, stressing that a strong opposition prevents a one-party state.

After voting in Surulere, Gbajabiamila described the Lagos state local government election as peaceful but expressed disappointment over poor voter participation.

Meanwhile, Abdullahi Ganduje suggested a one-party state could benefit Nigeria, Tinubu firmly rejected the idea, affirming commitment to multiparty democracy.
