Tinubu Urges Nigerians In Diaspora To Invest In Nation’s Development

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on Nigerians living abroad to actively contribute their expertise, resources, and knowledge to the country’s growth, emphasizing that national progress depends on the participation of both citizens at home and those in the Diaspora.

Speaking during an interactive session with members of the Nigerian community in Japan on the sidelines of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9), President Tinubu urged Nigerians abroad to return home and take part in the nation’s economic transformation.

“I am happy to listen to you. I’m happy to report that many of our people are returning home. Yes, for economic reasons, some people might decide to stay away; it’s a fundamental right of the individual, but for the economic growth and opportunity available in Nigeria, don’t stay away. Your contribution is very much needed. If you stay away, who will build it?” Tinubu stated.

The President highlighted his administration’s achievements in critical sectors such as passport issuance, healthcare infrastructure, business competitiveness, and investment reforms. He further encouraged Nigerians in the Diaspora to serve as ambassadors of the country by promoting a positive image abroad.

“National development cannot be left to the government alone; it requires a shared sense of responsibility between citizens at home and those abroad. If we don’t join hands and work together, then we’ve lost the hope of being the leaders we are supposed to be,” he added.

During the engagement, the Minister of State for Industry, Senator John Enoh, alongside the Executive Vice Chairman of the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), Khalil Suleiman Halilu, shared insights on government policies and ongoing reforms.

Wale Tinubu, a business executive and nephew of the President, also spoke on how recent economic reforms have boosted competitiveness, attracted foreign investments, and strengthened the Nigerian stock market.

Members of the Nigerian community in Japan, including professionals, entrepreneurs, and students, welcomed the dialogue and pledged their support for initiatives geared towards national development.

President of the Nigerian Union in Japan, Mr. Emeka Ebogota, praised Tinubu for engaging with the Diaspora, assuring that the union remains committed to supporting the administration’s efforts.

Other distinguished attendees included John Ologbotsere, a Japanese national award recipient in electrotechnical standardisation, as well as prominent Nigerian doctors, business leaders, and investors.

Also present were senior government officials such as Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar, other cabinet members, and top private sector leaders.

Concluding the session, President Tinubu reiterated his belief that Nigeria is on the path of resurgence, stressing that every citizen, whether at home or abroad, has a vital role to play in building a stronger and more prosperous nation.
