The South East Renewed Hope Agenda (SERHA) has distributed Christmas food palliatives and essential items to vulnerable households across the South East as part of efforts to ease economic hardship and promote social welfare during the festive season.

The distribution exercise was carried out under the leadership of the National Coordinator of SERHA, Ambassador Belusochukwu Enwere, who said the initiative was designed to ensure that no family in the region is left behind during the season of goodwill.

Speaking at the event, Enwere said the festive period should not only be a time of celebration but also a moment to reflect on collective responsibility towards the less privileged in society. He noted that rising economic pressures and the high cost of living have placed significant burdens on many households, making targeted interventions necessary.

According to him, the palliatives distributed include staple food items such as rice, beans, garri and other essential commodities needed to support families during the Christmas celebrations.

He explained that beneficiaries were identified through a coordinated process involving SERHA officials and community leaders to ensure transparency, fairness and inclusiveness.

“This initiative is aimed at providing relief to households burdened by economic hardship, easing the cost of living, and ensuring that no family is left behind during this season,” Enwere said.

He stressed that the South East Renewed Hope Agenda goes beyond short-term relief, describing it as a transformational framework with a broader commitment to improving food security, strengthening social welfare systems and uplifting communities across the South East and Nigeria at large.

Enwere added that the programme reflects the principles of solidarity, shared prosperity and human dignity, particularly in difficult times. He urged beneficiaries to use the items strictly for their intended purpose of feeding and nurturing their families, warning against selling the palliatives.

The SERHA coordinator also expressed appreciation to community leaders who supported the exercise by helping to identify those most in need, noting that grassroots collaboration remains critical to the success of social intervention programmes.

In his remarks, Enwere commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as his ”

qualitative leadership, saying the Renewed Hope Agenda aligns with the president’s vision of inclusive growth and national development.

He assured the president of continued political support from the South East, stating that the region would stand firmly behind Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“Our dear president, be rest assured that South East votes are for you. We will ensure that we re-elect you come 2027,” he said.

Enwere called on citizens to continue supporting one another and to sustain the spirit of unity, compassion and hope beyond the festive season. He emphasized that building resilient and prosperous communities requires collective effort and shared responsibility.

He concluded by offering prayers for the beneficiaries, their families and the nation, wishing Nigerians a peaceful Christmas celebration and a hopeful New Year.

The palliative distribution is part of ongoing efforts by the South East Renewed Hope Agenda to complement government policies and interventions aimed at cushioning the effects of economic challenges on vulnerable populations.
